Steve Santana, Sr. Training Specialist/SME
Steve Santana is a Senior Training Specialist and Subject Matter Expert for Public Safety Specialists. He is responsible for course preparation, development and the instruction of safety subjects for our clients.
Prior to joining Bracken Engineering Inc., Steve began his career with the City of Atlanta as a Firefighter (1992-1998). He went on to work for the City of St. Petersburg Fire Rescue. During his time there, he has held several different positions. These include: Paramedic (1998 -2009), Lieutenant of Operations (2009 – 2013), and Lieutenant of Rescue Division Logistics and Special Events Coordinator (2013 – 2016). His most current position is Captain of Operations (2016 – Present). As captain, he provides leadership, training and direction to all assigned personnel as well as assuring a common culture of overall safety is shared by all crews. He is also responsible for the performance of assigned station, personnel during all phases of daily operations as well as emergency response and operations.
Steve has also served in the U.S. Army for 13 years (1995 – 2008). While serving, he conducted combat and security operation in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. He also planned, lead and conducted operations as part of a Long-Range Surveillance Unit as well as Infantry platoon operations.
Steve is also the plans manager for US&R Task Force 3 (2010 – Present). In this position, he oversees all planning section responsibilities for FL Task Force 3. This includes the creation and implementation of Incident Action Plans, situational reports, resource request, tracking and management. Steve served as the Task Force Leader on the Hurricane Harvey deployment to Texas in August, 2017.
Steve has also spent time as an instructor for the St. Petersburg College Fire Academy (2011 – Present) and for the Florida Division of Emergency Management (2010 – Present). He has conducted ongoing in-service training to include live fire training, fire ground tactics, safety and survival. Other courses he has taught include ICS 300, 400, 402 as well as the FEMA Basic Emergency Management Academy.
